Tunes For Kids: A Chorus Line

Hey there…

How’s everybody doing? I hope you’re relaxed and enjoying your December days.

It’s been looking a lot like Christmas and winter around here in Colorado. I shoveled a foot of snow off my deck on Monday morning. It’s great exercise, but it seems like I’m never quite ready to do it at 6:30 a.m. Once I get started it actually feels great to get the fresh mountain air in my lungs. It’s just the dressing up, getting the shovel, and getting started that’s hard.

So…what does that have to do with tunes for kids?

Nothing.

I just wanted you to know how smooth you have it if you’re one of those people living in the South.  ;-)

Now…back to our tune contest…when we last talked about it, we had 2 verses. Now we’ve got two lines of the chorus. See if you can think of something to go with ‘em finish up the chorus. Then we’ll go for one more verse. The Peppermint Pony is just below…

I cast my gaze to the bright sky
That slowly fades into the night sky.
Stars like sparkling candy twinkle in my mind’s eye.

My pony’s red with a white stripe.
We’re riding down through a snow pipe.
Snowflakes flicker around me; the weather is just my type.

On the Peppermint Pony…
I can ride beyond the daylight into the twilight.
On the Peppermint Pony…
(what’s the next line everybody?)

Stay tuned,

Second line to new tune

OK…we finally have a second line to our new tune “The Peppermint Pony”.

You guys need to jump right in. Don’t be shy. I know you’ve got some words just ready to pop out of you. Don’t hold ‘em back. There’s no wrong words…only words that fit or don’t fit into the theme. Remember; we’re looking for a lullabye with a “western” feel.

So think about cactus, cowpokes, barns, pastures, saddles, spurs, and so on. And since the tune is about a peppermint pony think about candy, sugar, mints…You know what I mean.

Now here are the first two lines of the first verse:

I cast my gaze to the bright sky
That slowly fades into the night sky.

Let’s write one of those nice tunes for kids that’ll trot ‘em off to sleep with dreamy images and soothing music. Send in the words, ya’ll.

Lyrically yours,
